Arnold Schwarzenegger - Maria Shriver Separation Details

Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver announced their separation on Monday, May 9, after a 25-year relationship which they both described as "a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us".

The breakup comes about four months after Schwarzenegger ended a bumpy, two-term run as California governor, a job Shriver never supported to pursue.

The joint statement, issued by Daniel Ketchell - a spokesman for Schwarzenegger, said the two were working on the future of their relationship while living apart and they would continue to parent their four children - Katherine, 21, Christina, 19, Patrick, 17, and Christopher, 13.

"After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together," the statement said.

It was not clear from the statement if either of them will stay still at their gated, canyon estate in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Brentwood, or whom the children were with.
