Readers recommend: summer songs

Feeling summery? Then tell us which tunes make you want to pump up the volume and wind down the car windows

In some parts of the world, I imagine, summer means open-topped sports cars, drive-in movies and beautiful people with natural tans and unfeasibly white teeth. For me, it's picnic blankets. Ice cream. Family holidays to clapped-out seaside resorts. Sunshine, hopefully. But rain, invariably. But then, I'm British.

Music's an important part of the summer months. We wind down the windows. It's a time, with any luck, for a degree of relaxation. And some music just sounds summery.

I know, it's not summer yet, technically. But we're making plans, aren't we? Preparing for holidays, buying tickets to festivals, that sort of thing? Course we are. So which songs make you dig out the deckchairs, sun hats and beach towels and crack open a can of something refreshing? Help us prepare the ultimate summer soundtrack by posting your suggestions below.

The toolbox:

* Listen to others' suggestions and add yours to a collaborative Spotify playlist.

* Previously on Readers Recommend.

* Guide to "donds", "zedded", and other strange words used by some of the RR regulars (courtesy of the Marconium).

* The Marconium (blog containing a wealth of data on RR, including the songs that are "zedded").

* The 'Spill (blog for the RR community).

Please do:

* Post your nominations before midday on Tuesday if you wish them to be considered.

* Write a few lines advocating the merits of your choices.

But please don't:

* Post more than one third of the lyrics of any song.

* Dump lists of nominations. If you must post more than two or three at once, please attempt to justify your choices.
