The row over celebrity injunctions has caused something of a furore of late, with MPs and lawyers slamming the increasingly frequent use of gagging orders.

But one star who is in favour of so-called 'super-injunctions' is Hugh Grant.
The Four Weddings actor appeared on BBC Two's Newsnight and insisted that privacy was "one of your basic human rights".

"It's a bit like living under the Stasi," he said of life in the spotlight. "You never know when you haven't got a long lens in the bushes at the end of my road in a car.

"I've had my phone hacked, I've had the police come and tell me that now. They're always looking for anyone you may have been in contact with."

A host of celebrities have employed gagging orders to keep their secrets out of the press - Andrew Marr recently came forward to explain his reasons for obtaining a super-injunction.

Others are not so keen - Big Brother star Imogen Thomas claimed she had been "thrown to the lions" after a fling with a footballer while the likes of Gabby Logan have become the subject of false rumours.

But Hugh Grant said on the BBC show that it would be "wonderful" if the "worst of the tabloids" went out of business as a result of such gagging orders.

"It's mainly stealing successful people's privacy and selling it," he explained, adding: "I think the press have been completely out of control for the last 20 years."
