The focus of Monday night's "Dancing With the Stars" was Ralph Macchio and his bum knee. The 49-year-old actor had a ruptured cyst behind his knee — but he danced through the pain, and the judges seemed impressed by his determination.

Even more pressure? The dancers had to perform two dances that night — one rehearsed and one relatively impromptu performance (they were given about 20 minutes to rehearse during the live show).

Macchio did OK. He earned a total of 46 points out of 60 for his rehearsed Viennese waltz and his improvised cha cha. "With the circumstances," judge Bruno Tonioli told him, "you did very well to cope with it, let alone doing it."

The audience gave him a standing ovation, but his scores placed him dead last.

Here's how the others fared:

Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas: The couple has become the ones to watch in these last few weeks. On Monday night, they danced the waltz and later did the salsa. "You brought a whole new mature, sophisticated aesthetic. You finished every move. It looked like there was a whole new added dimension to your dancing. You earned perfection tonight," judge Carrie Ann Inaba said. Score: 55/60.

Hines Ward and Kym Johnson: The NFL superstar danced the foxtrot for his rehearsed dance and chased it with the jive for his instant performance. Score: 54/60.

Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: Alley and her partner danced the Argentine tango before following up with a salsa. Her performance was well-received by the judges. "Just the right amount of passion to lead into the ultimate seduction. Plus, your footwork was brilliant! Your body is shrinking," Tonioli told Alley. "Your talent is huge!" Score: 53/60.

Romeo and Chelsie Hightower: The couple picked the tango first. Their second dance of the night was the salsa, and the judges cited them for having a few missteps. "Last week, I said you had to up your game, and that's just what you've done," head judge Len Goodman told them. Score: 52/60.
